Assortments of the fresh sea-foods are found daily in many of excellent Richmond restaurants.

Richmond is also known by very large variety of  local and exotic fresh fruits

Richmond’s greatest asset is her prime location to the transportation of goods by air, sea, rail or truck – with a network of interconnecting bridges, tunnel and airport – the third largest in Canada.

It is also blessed by moderate coastal climate. The warm Japanese current plays the same role in Richmond as the Gulf Stream does on the British coast.

Situated south of Vancouver, west of New Westminster and north of Municipality of Delta, Richmond is made up of two main islands.

-Sea Island, Lulu Island, and many smaller islands are creating Richmond.

Lulu Island, the main island where industry and residence are situated, is the focal point of primary and secondary industries.

Its airport, located on Sea Island, is Richmond largest employer. There are over 50 industries in Richmond.

It is also a centre for a fish processing operation at Steveston, where two large fish plants, backed by over 1.000 fishing vessels, bring in millions of dollars to Richmond’s economy.

Richmond is people – oriented, with many community centres and parks sprinkled generously throughout. There are many sports facilities as well – indoor and outdoor tennis, five golf courses, jogging and fitness tracks, boating on 15 acres of waterways, swimming, and horseback riding on dykes and trails and soccer, lacrosse, cricket, football, baseball and track.

As well there are many cultural activities including the Steveston Salmon Festival, Country Fair and sardine Day.

There is also well-equipped Arts Centre, with a gallery and museum, and classrooms for arts and crafts.

During the summer months there are berries to pick at many of Richmond berry farms-strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, or you can buy your own from the produce stands that are open all year-around.

Richmond, too, has been called the “Garden City” – with its lovely homes, condominiums, apartments and townhouses, landscaped with an abundance of beautiful flowers, for the people of Richmond are very proud of there exquisite gardens.

If you are lower of the sea, you can walk along  Steveston’s cannery row where many fish boats are moored, watch fishermen mending nets, or buy fresh fish off the docks on weekends or at the height of the fish runs.

Richmond is a very popular tourist attraction-located just five minutes from the Vancouver International Airport.

Three large department stores and three modern shopping centres are located within a one-mile radius, with over 250 specialty shops to brows in.

There is much to see and do in Richmond-from sports, to shopping, to dining, to visiting museums, and, of course, there are the fascinating dykes to explore-40 miles of them.

They offer an unspoiled view of coastal mountains, the Gulf of Georgia and the Fraser River with its migratory birds and waterfowl, its Sturgeon Banks and its passing parade of ships bound to and from Europe and Orient.
